i did it!

I bought the 135mm f2 L and I’m unbelievably excited.  When I first purchased my camera a few months ago I only bought the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 to go with it and I have loved that lens to pieces… still do, but I am really excited to get my hands on some L glass.  My next purchase will be a 430ex but after that I probably won’t be able to justify buying anything else until around 2023!

I am nervous that I will find the focal length a touch too long on my 30d… but if I do I’ll just have to stick it up on eBay and hope for the best!  I’ve bought it from Hong Kong eBay shop ‘Digital Rev’ and have paid an extra £10 for the 7 yr international warranty which seems to have decent reviews on the photography forums I’ve visited.  I paid a total of £469 not inc import duty (which digital rev will refund if I get charged any) and only last month saw one sold 2nd hand for £490 so I shouldn’t lose out too much if I do decide it isn’t right for me.

Hopefully I’ll have the lens in my hot little hands by the end of the week!

Here’s a couple more from Wales which you’ve likely seen already, sorry for repeating myself!

Oh, I watched Pan’s Labyrinth last night… what a film!  If you haven’t seen it already, watch it!  If you have, did you love it too?

It was weird watching about the Spanish Civil War aswell.  I just recently discovered that my great uncles John, Paddy and Willie fought as volunteers against the fascists in the 15th International Brigade.  There’s a bit about a memorial unveiling in their hometown here.  It’s so odd to find out how little you know about relatively close members of your family.  All three of them died before I was born, but Mum has so many memories of them that I’m only now learning to appreciate.  I also got in contact with the son of another member of the 15th International Brigade who kindly gave me some photographs he has been collecting over the years.  Here’s one of Johnny in battle:

And here’s a youtube vid in tribute to the brave volunteers who fought against fascism in hopes of averting the 2nd World War. ¡No Pasarán!

Anyway, what a total hotch potch of random musings!  Apologies for that, this is what my brain is like… start thinking about new camera lenses… end up feeling all deep and historical.  This probably should have been about 3 different posts, I’m all confudgulated now.

Love, from me. xxx

  4. Ooooh those are SO beautiful! I’ve had good luck with Digital Rev - I’ve bought several lenses and bits and pieces from them :) Shipping always seems to be quick too.

I LOVE that second shot with the flowers in the foreground, it’s so lovely.
